Don’t fall for the cinnamon challenge
Another video gone viral involves a trend that is raising eyebrows in health circles. Swallowing a spoonful of cinnamon has become a new sensation that some professionals are warning against. Fear of respiratory damage has brought out doctors and other health experts to speak against the trend. Take a look at the news broadcast below for recent coverage of this fad.
The challenge is to attempt to swallow a spoonful without taking any water for sixty seconds. As you see from the many videos online, no one is able to do it.
Cinnamon is tree bark in its rawest form. It is dry and dusty and causes gagging when taken by the spoonful. It quickly absorbs the saliva in your mouth and makes swallowing difficult. We went to WebMD and found this information.
Like other trends that take hold, including vodka gummi bears, planking or flash dances, some present a higher risk of injury than others. There will always be something new to try or participate in, especially with the competition to become a YouTube star. Everyone wants their fifteen minutes of fame which is understandable. Even Judge Tom planked in Peru last year. Our only comment is to stop and think for a moment before ingesting anything into your body. If you don’t know the ingredients or consequences of drinking or eating a foreign substance, don’t or at least ask a few questions before blindly jumping in.
