Dear Anon: Any form of child abuse and neglect is nothing to joke about and is not to be taken lightly. Any abuse needs to be reported to the police and/or Child Protective Services immediately (this can be done anonymously as well). The number for the national Child Protective Services hotline is 1-800-422-4453. Another option is to talk to a trusted adult as soon as possible whether it’s another relative, teacher, school counselor or a friend’s parent. There are plenty of resources that can help put an end to any form of abuse. Please take care of yourself. (Check our Resource Directory for more help and resources in your area. Judge Tom is the founder and moderator of AsktheJudge.info. He is a retired juvenile judge and spent 23 years on the bench. He has written several books for lawyers and judges as well as teens and parents including 'Teen Cyberbullying Investigated' (Free Spirit Publishing) and 'Every Vote Matters: the Power of Your Voice, from Student Elections to the Supreme Court' (Free Spirit Publishing). In 2020, the American Bar Association published "Cyberbullying Law," the nation's first case-law book written for lawyers, judges and law students. When he's not answering teens' questions, Judge Tom volunteers with the American Red Cross and can be found hiking, traveling and reading.
