If it’s the first offense for this person, then he/she most likely will not face time in detention. He/she may be offered diversion so long as the amount in the pocket is relatively low and there’s no evidence that the contraband was intended to be sold. Diversion means that the charges would be dismissed so long as the person completes the program. Otherwise, probation may be granted with community service hours required, payment of a fine and possibly having to attend drug awareness classes or counseling. Thanks for writing.
