My friend and I went to the mishawaka University Park Mall in Indiana last night 11/9/15. We went into the new store called Garage, I purchased two shirts on sale for 15 dollars a piece and a cute scrunchy. I paid in cash but i don’t remember what happened to the recite. We then went to Starbucks and got a hot chi latte and a green tea chocolate chip frappe and then went into aeropostale. We headed back into the clearance section and found some cute tops that we wanted to try on. We went into the changing room. I found a sweater i liked and she found a jumper of some sort she liked. She also had a $5.00 top that she liked. Her sister had just came home this weekend from Chicago with a couple friends and showed us everything that she had. We were astonished at how much stuff she had bought and asked her how she got all of it. She told us that she stole it all and told us how she did it. She told us that she took off the tags and stuffed them into the trim of the fitting rooms. So my friend told me that she really liked the top and wanted to try it, I was against it and told her that I didn’t feel right about it and didn’t wanna get in trouble. She told me that it would only be that item. I didn’t know what to do, she ripped off the tag and put it in my purchased items bag and then i went up to the counter to pay for the sweater and jumper with my debt card. We walked out the store and the alarms didn’t go off. She was excited because we pulled it off. I do agree that I felt a rush of adrenaline from the crime we committed. We then went to aerie and then to jcpennys. Other items such as pj shorts to shirts were put into my purchased bags hiding the stolen merchandise. I ran into a friend at the mall and talked with him for a little bit and we all headed to jcpennys. He told us he had to leave because his ride was leaving. He didn’t take anything he even told us that it was a bad idea. My friend and i then walked around jcpennys and found items that appealed to us and went to a changing room tags were removed and clothes were stashed and before we knew it we were on our way out of jcpennys on an adrenaline high of our lives. Security caught us and took back into the jcpennys security room to interrogate us. We removed the items and they got all the price tags for jcpennys and were retrieving the others. They totaled up the amount for jcpennys and it was over $200. Im 18 years old and my friend is 17. Her father was called to the scene and told everything. He signed papers and was told that they would have to show up in court and that they would receive paper work in the mail within two weeks. The police arrived talked to my friend and then to me. They told me the same thing about having to go to court but that it will be different for me because im an adult. This is the first time I have ever done anything bad. Im still a current student at northridge high school and am graduating 7th semester this year so I can work to earn more money for college. I told the store that I was very sorry for wasting their time and for shoplifting. I know that I’m going to be charged because I committed a serious crime that I should have never done. I was worried the first time we walked out of the first store but after we did our ego went over our heads making us feel like we were invincible. It wasn’t until I was sitting in the chair that it fully hit me that I had just committed a big crime and that I could go to jail. My entire body was shaking and I couldn’t stop crying all I could think of was that I may not ever be able to go home and that I may never get to go to college because I made a bad decision. This scared me so much that I never want to step foot in another mall again.
