I want to sue:
Information and Representation concerning housing discrimination
My name is Shawn Jackson and I am a resident at Creek Side Manor II in Clearwater, Florida.
I believe that I was treated worse than those not of my race because when I had an incident with an employee who threatened me with physical harm, I was told by Marie, the site manager, when I reported issue that she had 100% confidence in the maintenance employee, who she had known for years. I am aware that both of the employees are Hispanic.
Marie, after my complaint, refused to contact me and give me any information. Marie said she wanted to talk to the maintenance person and she would get back to me. I did not hear from her that day or the next three days. Therefore, I contacted the main office of Volunteers of America and left a message for the CEO to give this matter some attention.
Complaints which were never brought to my attention previously suddenly appeared in my file. I was informed by Marie that I could not know who made the complaints and when the residents complained. I also informed Volunteers of America that there was a camera recording the incident and Marie informed me that she could not retrieve the video. I met with the district manager of Volunteers of America and he also said that he could not retrieve the video. During the meeting with the district manager, I asked him if I could relocate to one of their other facilities and that is when he brought up the complaints in my file from residents and staff.
Creek Side manor II is a HUD funded facility and when I requested to see my file, as authorized through FICA, I was denied access. I was told that no one could see their files. The representative from Volunteers of America informed me that FICA was not relevant and that these files were inter-office. The bottom line is that I could not view my files and was not given the opportunity to relocate based on what was in the file.
I would like to see if there is an action that I can bring against Volunteers of America for discrimination, HUD violation for not following FICA, and the manufacturing of reports.
