Hello, I am I currently being evicted from my apartment for non payment of rent. I was scheduled for mediation yesterday and didn’t show up because I thought it was today. I called the court clerk and she said I could write the judge a letter. The reason I couldn’t pay rent is because I am currently unemployed. My rent is based on income and last September when I recertied I was employed, as I always am. I didn’t want to claim 0 income and then turn right around and recertify again once employment started. However employment didn’t start as planned. I paid Jan and Feb bills with my 2015 tax return. I’m worried that the judge will find this irresponsible behavior on my part. I chose to stop working because my children were showing signs of all the years there father was abusive to us, not physically with the kids. As a mother I felt this was what I had to do. There was constant harassment towards me from the father. It ultimately lead me here, unemployed and about to get kicked out of my apartment, the only home my children and I have known for almost six years. Do you have any advice for me on how to present my side?
