This happened in CA. I unintentionally drove and park on the side of the road of a private piece of farmland to fish. The road is public and is next to a rocky levee. The distance from the road to the levee is about a car’s width and that varies along the road, this is also where I parked. In about 15 minutes while I was there, a car approached and stopped right behind my car, I was maybe about 50 yards away. A person who claims to be the property owner got off the car and was already on the phone providing information about my car to someone on the phone and that he has it on camera, not sure to what entity. He was finishing the call as I was approaching him. I greeted and his response was asking me if I saw the “No Trespassing” sign and I replied no and sorry for if I did. He then told me that I will be getting ticket in the mail and see me in court then added “get off my property!” He then drove off. He did not write down any of my information at all. I then proceed to leave as soon as I was told, left in about a minute. As I was driving back, I saw the sign that he mentioned. If I had saw that sign prior I would’ve turned back and went a different route. The reason I missed the sign was the sign was posted at the end of a “T” intersection; I was approaching from the south. The sun was about an hr before setting and was directly behind the sign therefore was casting a dark shadow on it, which rendering it extremely hard to notice. Another note to add is that the car is not registered under my name. So when the car’s owner do received the ticket, what should he/I do? If there’s a court summon, should I attend instead of the owner? Since I did not damaged or caused any problem to the land and left once notified, would there be any criminal trespassing against the car’s owner?
