Hello there. (I’m trying to join the military to be an MP). When I was 17 my mom decided to take us to what I though was some sort of family therapy. From what I’ve learn feeling a little down or depressed is normal especially among teens. My mom told my brother who happens to be in the military and flipped out when I told him that the therapist gave me some low dose meds; which I never needed. I had already stop taking them because they’re obviously not for me and only took them for a period of 2 months. I’m 19 now done with high school and ready to join the military. I was told that the military DQ’s recruits for even just saying you took antidepressant. No matter the reason for how long or what age. At this point I’m afraid to even bring it up to a recruiter, because when it comes to AF recruiters they’re not very willing to help out since there’s waivers that might need to be approve and most-likely wont. I know people who have served 2 tours and same they either used to have depression or ADD/ADHD. They just didn’t mention it. My question is, will that come up in for a secret security clearance? I just think is dumb to prescribe antidepressant for kids who are looking a lil down for a girlfriend break up school stress etc it’s just part of being a kid. There’s counselors who help out when kids are acting up for any reason, not necessarily violent, homicidal or suicidal. Which I know I’m not any of those things, it was just normal family problems my brother being away from home and my single mom always working. My brother is disappointed at my mom for being so clueless about certain things that aren’t beneficial for us when it comes to qualifying for endless career choices (LIKE THE MILITARY & LAW ENFORCEMENT).
