Help I’m in Canada also btw so some law might not transfer over from the USA.
I got to school period 4 chilling prepping to leave for period 5 class my laptop was in my bag and a guy “accidentally” knocked it over even though i tested it its impossible since it 7.8kg (about 17.2lbs) he knocked it and it fell about 3-4ft to the ground and damaged my laptop once he did it i ask him can he pay for a new or repair my laptop he told me “Sorry I’m too poor” then left next day i asked again he told me he never did it and kept it until a witness which is his friend’s friend which would be sugar coating it for him. I told the principal he lied to the principal and said it was a accident even though i saw his hands moving randomly near my backpack so could that be possible to sue him for mischief since he was recklessly? I got a cop he didn’t cared much since he said he ain’t arresting a minor (obviously i asked him for legal advice since no one know anything) he told me to take it out with the manufacture (ASUS ROG) and ask for a free laptop since he said they make millions they can let 1 slip or ask Visa Infinite but its pass 40days of purchase he said since it was in a well packed backpack with foam they might cover it… he told me if none of those work he is getting my house insurance to pay but i don’t want to pay for more insurance. I’ve asked to file a police report but they don’t want me to…

Is there a loop hole with the mischief law that i can probably use? I can’t afford legal help nor my family since we ain’t rich nor with much income.
I’m thinking maybe moving his hands around my backpack and pulling it off is mischief because i want to take him to civil court. Anything in the Canadian law that can save me? I’m in British Columbia.
