It depends on the specific law in your state. Click here to review a chart of all states’ laws about receiving mental health treatment (inpatient or outpatient like counseling) and whose consent is required (a parent or is the minor’s consent enough to receive treatment). In many states, minors are given authority to consent to their own mental health treatment, but you may have to be a certain age like at least 14 years old or even older.
