Judge Tom
As for your record, it may not automatically be erased once you turn 18. If there are any charges pending, such as truancy, and you need to complete the terms of your program, then you should contact the court and find out what, if anything, you need to do to successfully complete the program/the judge’s orders. Once you turn 18, you can then contact the court and request a copy of your record to see whether or not anything is on it. In most states, youth “age out” of foster care at 18. However, this will depend on the laws of your state. The state may be required to help you transition from foster care into independent living until you are in your early 20’s. Check out this link for more information about aging out of foster care and helpful resources concerning aid and help that may be available to you. Good luck. (Check our Teen Help Network for more help and resources in your area. This is information only – not legal advice.)
