Ask-Rose if you’re stuck on homework
There are a number of homework hotlines you can call when you get stuck on a problem. However, some of these web sites connect you to a tutor-for-hire. Next time try contacting Rose at 1-877-ASK-ROSE [275-7673] or go online to www.askrose.org.
Since 1991 the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Indiana has provided free homework assistance to students. It started as a service to local residents, and now serves the country with over 44,000 calls in 2008.
AskRose targets students in grades 6 to 12 but takes all calls. Most questions concern math and science but no subject is off limits. Help is available Sunday through Thursday from 7 to 10 p.m. Calls are taken by Rose-Hulman students who are paid for their time and expertise in certain fields.
It’s important to note that AskRose doesn’t just give you the answer. The student tutor will help you work out the problem or lead you to the answer. The average call lasts 12 minutes.
On the lighter side, the program has received prank calls such as “Uh, what’s 1 plus 1?” or “Paper or plastic?”
