Judge Tom
Dear Jocelin: Although it may be possible, it’s not necessarily real likely. Judges are given a good deal of discretion when sentencing youth and imposing consequences. Since truancy matters are often handled through diversion programs, time in custody is not the norm. However, if the juvenile continues to violate the court’s orders and fails to complete the terms of the program/sentence, the judge may believe that a little time in detention is warranted. Thanks for asking.
