This morning, I received mail from 2 different attorneys, stating that I should contact them regarding the “serious criminal charges” that I have recently been charged with. Since I have never been arrested, or accused of a crime other than speeding, I called, to ask if these mailings were just marketing advertisements. I was told that my name and information was found on a recent public record search, with a Criminal Case Number. After many more calls, I was finally able to speak with the officer that had written/filed the summons. I was told that security cameras at the Walmart, that I had done grocery shopping at last week, had recorded me going through the self check-out section, with $105 worth of merchandise in my full cart, that I didn t scan or pay for. I have not seen the video footage, so I can not confirm or deny this. I had just gotten off work, (I work 6 overnight shifts per week), so I was really tired, and also distracted due to other issues in my personal life. I do know that I have never (intentionally) stolen anything before, and because I am a Registered Nurse, if I end up with a “criminal record” of any kind, I loose my job/career. If I did take the merchandise without paying, I would definitely go back and pay for it. The officer said that I should receive the official summons any day. I am very stressed about this. I don t know what to do. Is there something I can do, to fix this, or prevent this from going any farther??
