I was caught shoplifting about $200 worth of clothes at JcPenny’s when I was 17 in South Carolina. I was not arrested, but I was given a ticket for $781. At my court date listed on the ticket, I agreed to participate in a diversion program. I completed 60 hours of community service, a “change” class, and an online class about shoplifting prevention on which I received a low risk for repeated shoplifting. Unfortunately, I have been referred back to the court because I failed 3 drug tests. I just want to know what happens now. Will I simply be asked to pay the rest of my ticket? I wasn’t arrested on the day I was caught shoplifting and I completed the majority of my diversion program, so I pray that jail time is not on the table. I just want to know what I’m walking into.
