According to the following link, the compulsory attendance laws in PA require that your son be in school until he’s 17. Be sure to confirm that the information provided in that link is current as laws are changing all the time. You also can Google “PA compulsory attendance laws” for more information about the specific requirements in your state. Even if your son is not at risk of court consequences for truancy since he’s now 18, perhaps you (and the principal or attendance officer if they’re willing to get involved) can remind your son that he’s risking not being able to graduate with his class if he has too many missed days/periods. Finally, look at the student handbook which should be available online for more information about the school’s policies on this. Good luck to him.
