The age of majority in MOST states is 18, but be sure to check which state(s) you are concerned with as the age differs in some states. The following link lists the age of majority in all states in the U.S.; however, confirm that the information is current as laws are constantly changing. When states created their age of majority it was based on when a person was no longer under the supervision and dependency of his/her parents. Judge Tom is the founder and moderator of AsktheJudge.info. He is a retired juvenile judge and spent 23 years on the bench. He has written several books for lawyers and judges as well as teens and parents including 'Teen Cyberbullying Investigated' (Free Spirit Publishing) and 'Every Vote Matters: the Power of Your Voice, from Student Elections to the Supreme Court' (Free Spirit Publishing).
