Student hacks school’s system for second time!

PreviousNext

In October, 2008, 15-year-old Matthew Beighey hacked into his school’s computer system and obtained personal information about 250 school  district employees. He posted the addresses, telephone and social security numbers on his web site. He was caught and charged with computer trespass.

He continued as a sophomore at Shenendehowa High School in New York, but was banned from using the school’s computers.   In April, 2009, he was caught using another student’s ID and password to get into the computers again. This time he managed to lock faculty and staff out of the system so they couldn’t enter students’ grades for the term.

Matt has been charged with unauthorized use of a computer and third-degree identity theft. He was released to his parents and is to appear in court to answer to the charges. He was also disciplined by the school, but no details have been released.
