You are not a Blue-Jay, Do not jaywalk!

PreviousNext

How many times have you been going down the street and seen a jaywalker? Way too often. Jaywalking is extremely dangerous. According to the National Safety Council 5,900 people are killed every year from  jaywalking. More than 84,000 people suffer non-fatal injuries.

In Flagstaff, Arizona two people died from jaywalking within two weeks of each other. Both were under the age of 21. The first one was a fourteen year old girl who was jaywalking down a busy five lane street, she was hit and dead on impact. The driver remains to be found. The second was a 7 year old boy who was hit while riding his bike. He was taken to the hospital, but died a week later.

How many of the 5,900 people who die will be your friends, kids, or family? This is not a subject to be taken lightly. There is a good reason jaywalking is illegal.

Jaywalking can be very dangerous. It also slows traffic down considerably.
