11 year-old creates anti-bullying website

PreviousNext

Hannah Evenson is in middle school in the state of Maryland. She is 11-years-old and has been a victim of bullying at school. She decided the best way to deal with it, besides ignoring the bully, was to help others. So, she created an anti-bullying website called Stop the Bull. When asked about her experiences she explained “They said to me you’re ugly, stupid and you’re never going to do anything. They would talk behind my back and gossip about me. There wasn’t much to do about it. The only thing I could really do was stay away from her.”

But Hannah did more. “Stop the Bull” discusses the nature of bullying and how to help victims. Hannah wrote the content on her site (misspellings and all which adds to her genuineness and sincerity). She has the support of her family who help her respond to readers. Her mother, Mimi Everson, said that “Parents can talk to other parents about children, teachers can create more awareness in the schools. She feels really passionate about it. She doesn’t want other people to feel like she felt.”

Hannah has bracelets for sale on her site that read: on the front “Stop the Bull” and on the back “The Kids Will Thank You.” Hannah also invites your comments and questions at the following email: stopthebull1@yahoo.com

We wish Hannah and her family all the best in this effort to fight bullying, traditional and cyberbullying.

It sounds to me like Hannah is a leader. I hope her idea ‘Stop The Bull’ catches on and other young leaders just like her step up like she did.
