Thought to be the world’s oldest blogger, Maria Amelia Lopez passed away in Spain on May 20, 2009 at the age of 97.
The great-grandmother started blogging in 2006 after her grandson created the site for her 95th birthday. Ms. Lopez wrote about everything from life in Spain under the dictatorship of General Francisco Franco to the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq which she criticized. She attracted more than 1.7 million hits.
“My bloggers are the joy of my life,” she wrote. “I did not know there was so much goodness in the world.” Ms. Lopez urged elderly people everywhere to get wired. She will be missed, but her blogs live on at: amis95.blogspot.com.
