Judge Tom
Dear Anon: Whether the police would get involved, investigate and possibly pick up the minor for running away would depend on the laws of that state and a number of other factors like the size of town/city, the amount of crime and how many police officers are available. Once any abuse is reported, Child Protective Services would investigate. It’s possible that the home the minor is staying at in NJ would be an acceptable placement for outside of his/her own home, but it would be up the investigating agency. You can contact the national Child Protective Services hotline at 1-800-422-4453 to report any abuse. Thanks for writing us. Good luck to the minor.
