Judge Tom
If there are custody orders through the court, then your husband and his ex may need to return to court and request that the custody orders be modified. Of course this would be easiest if your step daughter’s mother agrees to let her live with you and your husband full-time. Otherwise, if she doesn’t agree, then the judge would have to decide whether or not there is a reason to modify the custody orders. You and your husband may want to speak with a family law attorney for more information. You could check with your local court to see if they offer a free legal assistance program that would allow you to meet briefly with a pro bono attorney. Many courts throughout the country offer these programs. Good luck to you and your family. (Check our Teen Help Network for more help and resources in your area. This is information only – not legal advice.)
