Adult Texting Turns Fatal
It’s not just teens texting behind the wheel that has everyone concerned. On September 12, 2008, a commuter-train engineer in Los Angeles, California ran a red signal and collided head-on into a Union Pacific freight train.
During his shift on the Metrolink train, 46-year-old Robert Sanchez had sent and received 57 text messages. He sent his last text to a train buff 22 seconds before the collision, killing himself and 25 passengers. New federal and state rules are going into effect prohibiting the use of personal electronic devices by rail workers operating trains.
