Judge Tom
Dear Grant: It sounds like you probably got lucky with just a warning. The police could have issued you citations, which would require you appear in court. If they turn the matter over to the prosecutor’s office who choose to file charges, then you will receive a notice in the mail to appear in court. If this happens and you have started college by the time it’s your court date, call the court in advance of your court date, explain the circumstances and ask if you can appear telephonically as many courts allow this type of appearance. Finally, if this is your first offense, you may be offered a diversion program and given the opportunity of avoiding a record. Good luck.
