I live in NC and have custody of my grandson (Curtis). My grandson was sent to boarding school in KY because of ADHD and ODD. We had to sign a POA relinquishing our authority of him while he attending school. Curtis followed another older boy one night and vandalized the school. The police were called and a report was done. The older boy admitted in the report that it was he and not Curtis that done the damage. No charges were pursued. The older boy was expelled and had to leave the school. We was asked and paid 1/2 ($500) the insurance deductible. We was told at that time that was all we needed to pay and Curtis would remain at the school. Today I received a bill for $25,000 and was told by law I have to pay $10000 because I am the guardian. I was not the guardian or supervising him at that time. Do I need to hire a lawyer and am I responsible for restitution?
Thank You
James Harrison
