The ground rent company for the flat that I rent out has been sending demand letters to the flat and claim to never have received the letter that I sent updating them of my new details. After only two months (4 letters sent in total and NO phone calls made) they have escalated to a solicitor who has now whacked on £400 in charges. Neither party will take payment for the overdue amount unless I pay for the charges as well. The solicitor contacted me by phone but the company itself say they do not do this. I have now paid the outstanding amount online but after seven years of paying on time I am shocked and disgusted at their treatment of me! Do I have any rights here? Should the company not have at least called me before escalating it to the solicitors?? Please help.
