Is smoking incense like K2 or Spice legal?
Synthetic cannabis or marijuana has become a popular item online and in smoke and head shops across the country in recent years. However, the rising trend of smoking what has been considered “legal weed,” has gotten the attention of state legislatures which are considering the legality of this substance.
What is K2 and Spice?
Synthetic marijuana is a mixture of dried herbs, spices and flowers sprayed with synthetic or chemical compounds similar to the THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) found in marijuana and sold as incense. It is often sold under the brand names K2, Spice, Genie, Fire ‘n Ice and many other names.

Smoking incense produces a high similar to that of marijuana, but unlike marijuana, the cannabinoids creating the high in incense come from a lab and not the ground. Reportedly, unless specifically testing for K2, it is not traceable in drug tests.
In large doses, some effects of herbal incense have been seen that typically are not seen in marijuana users. These include increased agitation and vomiting. Although official studies on the effects of synthetic cannabis have yet to be conducted, several cases show possible harmful effects including serious damage to the lungs (much more than tobacco), addiction and withdrawal symptoms, hallucinations, loss of consciousness and even psychosis.
Some believe that K2 is more dangerous than marijuana as some research (not official studies) has shown that the chemical compounds in K2 are 3 to 5 times more potent than the THC found in marijuana. The professor who first discovered some of the synthetic cannabinoids used in K2 and Spice, Professor John W. Huffman, has stated that incense “has not been tested on humans and could have toxic results. It should not be used as a recreational drug.” Since the start of 2010, the American Association of Poison Control Centers has received almost 2,000 reports of people who became ill after smoking K2 compared to a dozen in 2009.

In October, 2011, 13 year-old Brandon Rice of Pennsylvania passed away after months of hospitalization including a lung transplant. He smoked K2 and burned his lungs severely. The doctors did all they could but too much damage had been done and his body rejected the new lungs.
In November, 2010, a 29-year-old by the name of Zachary Snow ran two red lights in Arizona and crashed into three cars before coming to a stop. He climbed out through the sunroof of his car and ran. He was caught in a nearby bagel shop. He claimed he didn’t remember the incident because he had ingested spice just before driving. He was arrested and taken to jail on several charges: leaving the scene of an injury collision and driving while impaired. There were no serious injuries from this incident.
In December, 2010, stand-up comedian Travis Lipski admitted smoking K2 before driving. The 39-year-old crashed into three pedestrians and hit several cars and a produce truck near Pike Place Market in Seattle. He was charged with vehicular assault and jailed with a $75,000 bail. A field sobriety test indicated Lipski was under the influence. Blood tests will identify exactly what drugs were in his system at the time.
In February, 2011, problems with Spice were reported at the U.S. Naval Academy in Maryland. A four-month investigation resulted in the expulsion of eight midshipman with the probe ongoing. The drug became popular at the Academy because it can’t be detected in routine drug tests. Although not against the law in Maryland, the Academy has a zero-tolerance policy for possession and use of Spice.
Update: In a twist on help for smokers, Hawaii has become the first state to raise the legal age to obtain cigarettes, including electronic cigarettes, to 21. The law goes into effect January 1, 2016. Definitely a move in the right direction.
5 Chemicals in Spice and K2 Now Illegal under Federal Law
*In March of 2011, the federal government banned the following five chemicals used in K2 and Spice: JWH-018, JWH-073, JWH-200, CP-47,497, and cannabicyclohexanol. These chemicals are now considered a schedule one controlled substance, which means they are placed in the same category as heroin under federal law. However, developers of synthetic marijuana are coming up with new strains which do not include the banned substances, therefore, making them legal under the current federal law. These strains have been reported to be even stronger and have led to a number of overdoses and calls to the ER for severe side effects.
A report by lead author Dr. Joanna Cohen, published in Pediatrics in March, 2012, listed symptoms of synthetic marijuana use as excessive sweating, agitation, inability to speak, restlessness and aggression. “Euphoric and psychoactive effects” that are associated with marijuana use were also named. The American Association of Poison Control Centers reported handling 6,959 calls in 2011 related to synthetic marijuana, more than double the number in 2010.
Spice has ruined my marriagade my husband have no emotions and don’t care about anything we lost our kids to the DCF he admitted to smoking spice I’m in FLORIDA where its illegal about two weeks ago he purchased two bags at two different times from a ci who was working with police now I am being told he is going to go to jail in a sting operation he purchased a total of 42 grams two 21 gram bags what will he be charged with and do you know the penalty even tho we are getting a divorce he has two kids he was about to get back from state I feel so bad cause there mother has been gone 5 years don’t want them I’m just terrified for him any idea on what he will be charged with and is he looking at prison or jail time? Dear Zoe: Your boyfriend’s parents need to speak with a criminal attorney to find out about the potential consequences based on the laws in your state as well as the evidence. The state may send the substance to a lab to be tested for the illegal chemical compounds before taking the case to trial. It’s possible that your boyfriend will be appointed a public defender to represent him if his family cannot afford to hire an attorney. Many attorneys offer free initial consultation. My babys father smokes spice because he frequently has to be drug tested as he is a captain of a tug boat. We are now hoing through a custody battle & child support. Sad how this stuff can change someone into a fearless monster. I have no proof that he does this and havent told my lawyer. What do I do? Could he lose his job?

My son and his friends are on this crap. I can tell a difference in my son. HE is always angry , he cant remember what he is told to do. You can tell him something and five minutes later he has no clue what was said. I have found the empty packages and he always says its not his. Im not stupid!! I have talked to him and told him I am very concerned for him and I dont want to get the call telling me my son has died from this crap. Does the makers of this crap care that it is detroying lifes!!!!!! I pray everyday that my son can get off of this stuff. I have several people praying also. ive recently started smoking herbal incense, however, i do know my limits, take just one drag then get high and come right back down before you take another drag, do not take high doses of alcohol at the same time, a few beers are ok BUT KNOW YOUR LIMITS you cannot smoke this stuff like a normal spliff.

I have a problem my soon to be ex husband is smoking a brand called swamp insents but it is not on the list. He wants our son for the summer break but i don’t want him to go when he is on that stuff. I am scared of what can happen to him while he is with his Dad..

I’m almost 37, I’ve been spicin’ DAILY, for 7, count ’em, 7 years now, and guess what, I’m still perfectly healthy & fit as a fiddle.
I find myself in a similar situation as Concerned. I have a 2 month old whose father is addicted to this stuff. If he doesn’t smoke it he gets sick, irritable, even aggressive. When he does smoke it, he gets forgetful, talks to himself, and can barely walk! I was so scared forty son’s safety that I have left him. I want FULL custody of my son to protect him. It looks like my state, TX, banned them I. 2011? Is his smoking enough to get me full custody if I can prove it? He is currently on probation for cocaine possession in 2009 but I don’t believe they test for incense.
Just a side comment: there are a lot of ppl on here who say this doesn’t effect them. It’s so obvious that drugs have a different effect on every person. My family has been destroyed because of this drug. The person I once loved is gone
For someone just looking to have fun and experiment with this, is your life worth the risk? You may not have any problems if you try it… then again, you could end up like so many others. Even ppl who smoke it regularly with no problems can get a bad dose. Do you really believe the manufacturers of this believe in safety.or value your health? Why would they care if a defective batch with too many chemicals got out

As for your custody question, you should be in touch with a family law attorney in your area who can provide advice and information based your circumstances as well as the laws in your state. Considering your baby’s father is addicted to this stuff and is on probation for drug possession, there is a strong case for you to have custody. However, you need to share this information with an attorney who can help you. I have been smoking spice EVERY DAY for THREE YEARS STRAIGHT and have not noticed any negative side effects. I typically tend to smoke about 1 to 3 grams per day. It seems to me that the only people that get hurt (or die) from smoking this are young teenagers that don’t know when to put the pipe DOWN after only 2 or 3 hits, or either people who smoke it and then decide that it is a great idea to take a drive in their vehicle, go swimming in a lake, mix the synthetic drug with other drugs. Anything has the potential for abuse…including spice, alcohol, pornography, cigarettes….etc. So I suppose doing too much of anything is really not good. But that’s my personal experience. I have never understood the hype about this at all and most likely never will.
The k-2 spice and other name brands have taken a toll on my husbands life he is addicted to this substance to the point he has a hacking cough that will not go away, he cant sleep or eat without it. I am truely concerned for him. We no longer live together due to the fact I will not support this habit. I live in the state of West Virginia and have been to numerious places to get him help and to shut down theses shops selling it. But I am getting no where I am truely concerned for him I have researched everything possible of ingredients and side affects and it is scarey.He has no emotion for anything always in a daze. Its horrible to watch the people you love most kill themselves with the substance in front of you and theres nothing you can do about it. My worst fear is that I will get a call something has happened to him. I really would like to know the laws in WV for the substance. I see people sniff gas and i dont see the govt. outlawing that, but incense use wont stop because its like when prohibition happened, all over again! My fiance has smoked many different brands of this stuff and never had any problems but just recently has started smoking this stuff called guci. It causes his muscles in his forearms to cramp and turn blueish like from loss of circulation. I am curious why it does that and if that’s some sort of allergic reaction or something. I have researched and researched and have no found any information about or side affects like that.

How many teenagers know about chemicals released from plastic or any other container used to use drugs? Not many. Both the spice and PEZ dispenser contributed to this teen’s death. Bottom line: think before using any illegal drug about possible consequences to your health.

With all due respect Judge, I do not condone breaking any laws but we all know teens don’t think twice. This stuff is sold in gas stations and causes serious health problems. I have felt the addictive qualities in spice as I’ve had previous hardcore addictions. This stuff is not safe. Marijuana is an herb that doctors are now prescribing. Kids will do what they want but I’m glad there are sites like this to speak about it. Just because bud is illegal still doesn’t mean that this legal bud is better for you. My opinion is stick with what mother nature gives to us in its purest original form. It might save you a lifetime of painful addiction. The only reason bud is illegal is because you can’t put a patent on a plant right? So how can the government tax it? They can’t so they spend millions trying to teach our youth that its bad for you. I don’t know if its a coincidence, but both times I smoked spice I ended up with pneumonia. It gives me a horrible cough and I spit up nasty stuff. When I clean the pipe the smell makes me gag. I think everyone reacts to it differently. Once my bf and I were driving and I completely forgot where I was…it was scary. He couldn’t speak. He started laughing weirdly and I pulled over and he puked for the next 2 hours. We had been smoking the same stuff for a couple days so it was weird it affected us both like that. I had a fun growing up and tried everything however this stuff scares me a bit because they don’t even list the ingredients. Don’t smoke it while driving. Don’t smoke a lot – take a puff and wait a few minutes. Some kinds creep on you. Once you smoke too much you will be sick. Know that this stuff is not a plant. Its not incense or potpourri it is a chemical they spray onto the incense crap and it comes from China. Think about that for a moment. You are smoking a chemical that you or anyone has no idea what its made of. And its coming from China. Think about it. Just buy bud it so much cleaner and nicer feeling.

I smoke this stuff thinking it was like weed since i will be getting tested for my job. I was with 3 friends and all of us smoked a blunt of this stuff we bought called Mr. Nice Guy at a head shop. we all laughed non stop for 5 minutes then got extremely sick and starting hallucinating for 20 minutes, After the hallucinations slowed down we were all sick and pale faced, that took another a half hour to slow and find our way back to reality. BY FAR WORST EXPERIENCE IN MY LIFE!!!! i’v smoked every type of weed in my life and this nothing like weed, ITS POSION !!!!!

Some companies have developed drug screenings to test for the presence of incense and various forms of synthetic marijuana in a person’s urine, so it’s possible that a person on probation could be tested for such. You could find out what drugs are being tested for by asking the probation officer or possibly by reviewing the terms and conditions of probation.

I agreee, though, this stuff is bad and should be used with extreme care and caution. However, if a person wants to put something in their body, let them… they aren’t harming me, only them selves.. I just dont get how alcohol kills SOOO many more people every year then this new “trend” & people seem more concerned with the spice. Alcohol is manufactured and it is the true devil. These stories are a bunch of bologna. I have been smoking the strongest most potent spice there is, made by the original makers of SPACE, called Down 2 Earth for over a year. I smoke 2-4 bags PER DAY depending on my economical situation. I have never passed out, developed a horrible cough, caused a three car pile up, or had a “bad trip”. The reason people get sick is because they aren’t buying quality product. Stop buying 5$ bags are you won’t get sick.

Why ingest manufactured chemicals just for a temporary high when there’s a health risk involved? Doesn’t make a lot of sense.
There’s not been enough testing done on this stuff, Scientists believe it’s dangerous so states are making it illegal but the FDA have approved GMO’s which scientists have said causes health problems and is linked to cancer. The FDA have stated that GMO’s will not be labeled and that we the consumer have no right to know what we are eating. Am I the only one who see’s a problem with this? I believe this stuff should be illegal I just see a double standard here. Everyone has to eat, I believe everyone has the right to know what they are consuming GMO’s are not safe to consume so if GMO’s are on the market it would only be fair this junk is too.

my husband who is 48 years old has been smoking spice for the better part of 14 months he is totally a crack head now and doesnt even remember coversations we have this stuff is just as bad as meth or worse he has turned is back on all is family and friends and and is very close to losing a 90000 dollar year job

My daughter is 18 and has been openly bragging to me that she has been smoking legal weed! As a parent, I am extremely concerned! She has a very colorful past and I have done everything in my power to be proactive in trying to help her! She got pregnant at 13, have birth to a little girl at 14! After discovering that she had been drinking to the point of not remembering some of her actions, she voluntarily started working with the Juvenile Drug court program in Carroll County Georgia! She seems to do well in structure, but struggles with school! She started night school as a last resort and began to slip back into old patterns! I then convened her to go to rehab at Ridgeview Institute in Atlanta! She excelled there. When she got out she struggled with school again so I found a military program called the Georgia National Guard Youth Challenge Academy! She entered that program and again excelled and graduated as a Sargent (1 of 5 out of 50+ girls), passed the Presidents Physical Fitness test, one of the top 10 distinguished graduates of her class, received her GED, and won a scholarship! She has been out now a year! She seems depressed, irritable, unmotivated, very angry especially with me, and she has recently developed a very severe cough! She quit smoking cigarettes months ago but the cough has become worse than ever before! She has no other symptoms to lead me to think that it is allergies or even bronchitis. I believe with my heart that it has to be related to this so called legal weed! I don’t know if you have any suggestions that would help me! She is in the mind set that she knows everything, she won’t do anything I suggest, and I am at my end! I have an 8 yr old daughter and I am raising my granddaughter! My 18 yr old is becoming very verbally abusive with me and to a lesser extent to her younger sister! She uses profanity in front of them even when she has been asked not to! I am about to have to ask her to leave my house and not come back! I am not at all opposed to getting a protective order to keep her away! My wish is that sometime soon that, somehow, she will understand that just because it is legal weed that it doesn’t mean it is safe! If nothing else comes of this comment to you, I hope that her story and this development of this horrible cough will help the government/lawmakers make this as illegal as meth and heroin, and that one of the symptoms parents should watch for is definitely the cough!

I am a Georgia resident and there has been no bill passed banning all chemical substances, I know of a store that capitalizes on the market and I have talked to the owners, who told me that they are allowed to sell the new strain of incense. The last paragraph of this lists all the chemicals they are not allowed to sell, and I frequently see police and lab workers talking to the proprietors ensuring there product is legal.

I see them everywhere jabbering away. In fact, last year I was nearly run down–literally—two different times, by people talking on their cells, driving fast, not looking, didn’t even see me or that I had the right of way. And if I hadn’t been paying attention, I might not be posting this.
And also—this always bothers me too–why the law enforcement focus on substances as criminal while giving a free pass to criminals who do massive harm to law-abiding, working, taxpaying people? I’m talking about the white-collar crime bringing the economy to the brink of disaster. Is that just too difficult to investigate? Millions of people homeless, a record 1 in 50 children in the US WITHOUT A HOME, and white collar criminals are getting away with this…endlessly, and it gets worse and worse. HMO’s cheating dying patients out of treatment, losing their papers…banksters, bailouts, fraud of every shape and size, it goes on and on.
It really isn’t complicated. White collar crime gets a wink and a nudge and a slap on the back…until someone goes too far, like in San Bernardino where politicians gave a developer a 100 million dollar settlement over drainage easements. So that’s too obvious and they got caught, but otherwise..forget it. Meanwhile, Someone inhales something that makes them feel better and it’s fines and penalties and humiliation and perp walk, jail, and so forth—-all the while, legal alcohol causing major mind-warp (don’t tell me it doesn’t make people just raving stupid)….and that’s just fine, too.
If you’re a cop, maybe you even think it’s OK to pepper spray protesters.

Hello and thanks for this very informative post. I’m a 44-year-old professional woman who works a full week and have smoked different kinds of spice over the years with no ill effects and many positive–as long as I do NOT use the pipe. Using the water pipe is much safer on your lungs. It has a stimulant effect, unlike pot, which just makes me sleepy; I prefer it, because when I come home at night, have to do housework, and my brain is really tense and anxiety-ridden from the day at work. A couple of puffs and I feel much happier; I have energy to do housework; no hangover or anything.
HOWEVER: What you said about new substances being tried as the old ones are outlawed is true. And I have smoked TWO new brands now that give me a horrible cough even using the water pipe. They may have something “legal” in them, but the old stuff was fine, at least it did not affect me badly.
The brands are called Rain and Sexy Zombie.
I don’t know what’s in them. But I won’t keep smoking them for sure. There is another legal blend that has worked fine and been really helpful for a year or so now.
By the way, the kid who had the lung transplant had smoked spice through a plastic pez dispenser. I believe there was comment that no matter what he smoked through that thing, the chemicals in the plastic are likely what did him in. I’m sorry I don’t have a link for you right now on that.
As far as traffic accidents, a much more serious priority is getting cell phones out of drivers’ hands, period. Headsets and handsets are equal in their capacity to cause accidents…it is no longer controversial, and the NTSB even came out to recommend that headsets be banned as well. I am a traffic reporter and every day I hear about terrible accidents, and on the road I see so many drivers who are not inhabiting their bodies.
Driving is already multitasking and you need your sense of hearing to drive. Ever turn down the radio when you’re lost so you can concentrate? Well…I rests my case then, as they say….;) But anyway, if we really want to talk about safety on the road, cell phones are a lot bigger problem than spice, and the telecom lobby has lawmakers securely bound up in happy relationships…so a ban is not going to happen.

Okay. I do not normally post comments because the government reads them and get your i.p. address, but i do not care anymore. My thoughts are the subject are: with anything you consume, you have to know your limits, not everyone can handle the same as everyone else, prescription drugs(which kill your liver and causes other diseases to pop up), alcohol is legal (causes liver damage and major mind alteration), marijuana is illegal (no diseases linked to marijuana and is very beneficial to your body), spice or incense helps me keep my mind stable to where i am not thinking as much. I have smoked spice several times and it has done nothing to me. Though, it is not for everyone, just like anything else. What is good for someone else, is not necessarily good for the other person. So, with in mind, we must consider the options. Use at your own risk. Also, if you use spice in little doses, you will not get sick. People that have used spice and got sick or died, is not the the herbals fault, but the users. If the user does not choose to use it, then they will not get whatever symptoms happens. So, like i said before, everyone is different. Some people cant handle alcohol, but other can drink like a fish. I do not drink nor do i smoke cigarettes, but i do prefer the natural things in life. Oh yeah! Cigarettes are legal, which causes cancers and evetually death,but you cant smoke a joint. I would say that the government wants to abuse us and not let us make our own decisions. We are fully capable to make our own decisions, we are not babies and dont need our hands to be held. The governments laws contradict themselves. As it always have been. The truth is on the horizon, i hope everyone is prepared for it. I hope i touched sone brains and made you think. 😉
I am trying to find the legal Californian Penal Code for possessing Spice, or Spice like products, containing the chemicals the DEA have placed on the Schedule I narcotics list. I would like to arrest people for this as it is increasing in my town. Any direction would be greatly appreciated….if it falls in the same category as heroin is it HS 11350(a)?

From personal experience I can tell you that you should definitely smoke regular marijuana. Spice is great and all, more powerful for sure (x3) but the only problem is your tolerance on the fake stuff rises much faster (saw it with a friend). You then move on to spice because weed “doesn’t do it for ya”. Now that friend is doing bath salts (synthetic cocaine). I’m like w** I thought you were smarter then that but it is mind over matter I suppose. I prefer weed, spice gives me a racing heartbeat and heart palpitations but since marijuana is illegal, you can’t smoke it if you are trying to get a job.

My live-in partner is addicted to this drug. He is in his early 50s and has substituted it for pot, which he cannot smoke for fear of losing custody of his children. His ex-wife has suspended visitation 3x due to his marijuana use, and required random drug testing until he tested clean. Only then was he able to see his beloved kids. Now that he has found this substitute, he feels that he can smoke it daily without fear of the ex taking the kids away. And he does smoke it, daily. When he has the kids.
I see the effects it has and they are not pretty. He is constantly coughing – a hacking cough that does not let up. He is stoned much of the time and most times he presents to outsiders as drunk, slurring and spacey. I have sat with him through 2 especially bad “trips” when he has smoked too much. These were frightening enough for me to almost call 911.
It is only a matter of time before his ex learns of his “gaming the system” and takes the kids away, probably for good. I’ve tried to talk with him about this, but to no avail. He’s going to have to learn the hard way. I wish that this insipid drug would become standard in drug testing, because it absolutely does have intoxicating effects.
I’ve commented here because I feel strongly that these chemicals need to be outlawed. Let this be a cautionary tale for anyone who thinks it’s not addictive or mind-altering. I’ve done my share of drugs in my life, and I have a basis for comparison. This is dangerous stuff, folks.

Hey I tried an herbal incense called “Baha Blast” and hallucinated severely a couple of times. Now even a week later I have random headaches, and occasional heart palpitations. I’m a physically fit individual, so heart stressors arising worries me,as do the headaches. Should I get a CAT scan or EKG to see if I have done any serious damage, and has anyone had any similar problems. Do the headaches indicate brain damage,or would no one be able to say for sure….

In June, 2011, he smoked Spice from a PEZ dispenser and suffered chemical burns on his lungs. Chemicals from the heated plastic also contributed to his injuries. Bottom line: get to a doctor! I am confused I guess. People say to make pot legal, and make synthetic spice illegal. Weather or not any of this is legal or illegal people today will try to find something to get the “Edge” off! As you can see, certain chemicals have been outlawed but manufacturers find a way around the law by changing the chemicals, using substitute ones or simply changing a molecule in one that takes it off the list of prohibited substances. But, you still have sense to not do obviously dumb crap. Oh and I’m in Alabama and stores sell it all over , No one really cares. If people are getting sick off this , its because many many people’s allergies are herb / plant related. It certainly isn’t for everyone while some people have commented that they barely felt anything. Hello, I would appreciate a response from a former judge. I live in michigan and was on probation. (still am). Well I was allowed to use medical marijuana on probation wich i do need and qualify. My judge (Honerable judge Edward Sozenick) out of oakland county followed the law and allowed it. I was doing great on probation for over a year when my docket was strangly switched and I was violated for smoking marijuana by judge Alexander. I did 90 days and jail and had to sign my card rights over to the state. they told me the state law does not apply to me on probation and that he was following federal law only in this matter. I recently did a miserable 90 days and was pulled off 120 mg’s of legal methadone in jail. Since I have gotten out I have been making my own spice containing a still legal jwh-081 compound and daimania leaf. It is not the same. I really do not enjoy it and it seems to cause minor heart palputations. Although i find it the best spice product I have had and seemingly safest feeling. Also, I had to kick methadone in jail and I have lost my liscence for this violation also. So I cannot drive. I had zero cravings for other drugs while on medical marijuana as I have pain and have became an addict in the past few years. Since I have gotten out i have relapsed on almost every drug and am failing drug tests. I advocate marijuana for so many reasons. I feel my civil rights have been have been trampled on in many areas and am having a poor quality of life since I have had my medical marijuana taken away. also all the law issues are making me lose it mentally. What do you think about these issues as a former judge? I can guarantee you that the spice business can be dangerous as there are many different chemicals in some of these and some may be adding to much of certain ones. I also can guarantee legalizing marijuana would prevent another dangerous drug from even being used. Again i am LEGALLY allowed to use oxycodone and Vicodin but not my medical marijuana, wich I would only use that for pain now if I was allowed. I am very sad and upset at a system i once believe in many years ago. i now see everything is for profit and control. To protect big business we are selling our of this country down the drain.

A lot of people seem to misunderstand why K2 / Spice is legal. It’s legal because it is supposed to be used as an incense, not for inhaling into your lungs. Even if you were to say “well spice is harmful to you, so it still doesn’t make sense that it’s legal…” that would be irrelevant. In almost every case when you buy spice, there will be a warning label on the package that says do not consume or inhale on the back. Of course, almost everyone buys it with the intentions of smoking it, but it is not marketed for that reason. Therefore, it’s legal.
As for my experience with smoking spice, its similar yet different from weed. You definitely get A high from it, but it’s a different high than you are used to. It lasts for a shorter amount of time (30-60 minutes)and is much more intense. I haven’t tried any hard drugs or really anything past weed, and I would consider smoking this stuff a step up from weed. I personally don’t recommend it because when I was on this stuff, I felt like I was on a drug and not just high off weed.

Dear Jon: In the states where it’s been legal, there have been a number of emergency room visits and personal reports from people suffering bad side effects from the substances. Also, some research has indicated harmful side effects, but at this time, the long term effects are unknown, so it’s risky to experiment with the substance. This is why many states are making spice illegal. Keep in mind that if you’re able to buy spice in a neighboring state, it may be illegal for you to bring it into your own state. If you were to be pulled over with the substance and the police found it, you could be cited.

I dont see why they don’t just legalize pot.. It’s harmless compared to alcohol and nicotine and has proven to have the same addiction level as caffeine! If they legalized pot then it would also cut down on distribution by gangs and that would make a big hit towards the crime scene. If they would make k2 illegal and legalize Mary Jane then it would also be much healthier. I do believe though, it should be available to those that are 21 or up and have penalties if caught driving with or behaving disorderly or abusing it much like alcohol. Thanks for your thoughts, Mitchell. Legalization of marijuana is one of those issues that will continue to be debated in legislatures across the country. Many consider it as politically destructive and prefer ignoring it. Even medical marijuana is met with opposition and litigation. Time will tell.
Look, the problem is easy to see. If marijuana was legal, there would not be a younger generation looking for alternatives. These synthetic creations, they do not come from the earth. They are not natural substances. I am against hard drugs. I consider K2 and Spice hard drugs. Why? The side effects and the high that it brings. Our government does justice by outlawing meth and cocaine. I’d say things such as LSD which bring a great trip at a small damage compared to other substances should be considered for legalization. The fact that marijuana is not legalized upsets me. We are not being protected from marijuana. It is relatively harmless. Studies show that the hypothesis brought up stating that weed kills brain cells were disproved. The government hopes weed will continue to have a bad image. Weed is not legal simply because the government feels it can not control the substance. It can be grown in one’s backyard. Instead, the government legalizes substances such as cigarettes. Cigarettes are addicting and provide a great tax income. Weed is not seen as profitable. If weed were legal, less people would smoke cigarettes. There would be a better option for health and mind available. Weed is bad for your lungs. This can be avoided with a vaporizer. With a vaporizer, there are no known disadvantages other than that some people consider a high bad. You’re very wrong. Salvia smoking is ridiculous. I was arrested for marijuana. As far as I’m concerned, I committed no crime. I did not hurt anybody. I had no intention of hurting anybody. I did not cause harm in anyway: be it mentally, physically, sexually, abusively. – None of the listed. Weed has been the only peace I’ve felt in a long time. I have bi-polar disorder. The only way I can maintain my emotions and social stability was with the aid co cannabis. The medication the doctors gave me, it made me feel ill and worse than before. I reside in Florida. K2 and Spice have no medical advantages. They should not be allowed. What about people like me? California and New York have decriminalized marijuana. You basically get a ticket for possessing it. Alaska tolerates up to an ounce for personal use. The signs are clear. Marijuana will have its day. K2 and spice will have an end sooner than later.

I confess, I have tried the K2 before. I honestly don’t see how anyone can even smoke it. I have also smoked the other stuff in the past. Here is my conclusion and comparison. When I smoked the K2 I basically felt like crap. I couldn’t move and if I tried it was like the entire house was moving…it felt like everything was moving and I felt like I was in the ocean. I don’t consider that a good high. In the past I have never felt like that when I smoked pot. All it ever did was make me relax and chill out. I wouldn’t recommend anyone smoke K2..or pot since it is illegal.

Dear Mandy: We haven’t heard about that rather serious side effect of spice and we’re not in the medical field. Doctors snd scientists are finding physical symptoms of smoking spice from lung damage to hallucinations. Studies are underway to determine the full extent of smoking incense, using bath salts, etc. Bottom line, these methods of getting high contain chemicals that are harmful to your mind and body. I’ve smoked K2 a few times (I’m 17) and it’s kind of like the symptoms of weed. You have all the signs (red eyes, munchies, giggles, wierd thoughts), but you don’t really feel “high.” Also, it only lasts about 30 minutes as opposed to 3-4 hours with regular marijuana. The only people I know who do it regularly are kids who get drug tested frequently. I once smoked it while I was high on real marijuana and nothing happened. If Marijuana was legal and not tested for all the fake weed brands would probably go out of business.

Google “Ryan Santanna” who was hanging out at a friend’s apartment in New York. He was a film production student at the Art Institute of New York City and scheduled to graduate this spring. The 21-year-old ended his life in March, 2011 when he jumped off the 15th story balcony after smoking salvia.
Last night I had some herbs from http://hollywoodherbalincense.com/ and they were way too powerful and potent for me, Im just a 100 lbs and not much body fat so it messed me up bad, my hubby loved it. Guess Im just a newby.

I just wanted to say that i don’t understand how Marijuana is still illegal when the side effects of its use are Far less harmful than alcohol Or Spice. I Was a long time marijuana smoker but when the jobs cracked down on urinalysis for even the most lowly of jobs I gave it up. I have Tried spice a couple times and the biggest difference that I have noticed personally is that it only takes around 2 large inhales. With pot it could take as much as 5 to 10 inhales. Personally I think “Pot” and or Spice should be handled like alcohol. 21 to purchase and if you are caught driving under the influence you should have to deal with the legal ramifications that come with it. As we all remember from Our teens.. If we wanted beer we almost all knew somebody that could get it but the 21 yrs old thing made it Impossible to get for ourselves. I personally think the banning of spice has more to do with a kind of competition with the drug trade EG; less seizures of cars ,houses, bundles of money from drug raids. I have heard about “Legal” cocaine.. That would be FAR FAR worse than spice but you don’t hear Anything about that on the news. I know of at least 7 people that QUIT using cocaine products when Spice came out. they preferred “Pot” but couldn’t risk the drug tests. Where is the greater good here? Perhaps you might be able to explain it to me. I understand that Drugs are illegal but i have seen far too many people get completely stupid on beer and liquor and yet it is still legal. you CANT die from overdosing on pot but you do need to watch out with too much alcohol. I’m very sorry if i have gone off on a rant but it is a subject that i haven’t been able to wrap my head around for several years. Thank you for any help and brightest blessings

Marijuana wouldn’t do this. Why is it still illegal when substances like K2 and alcohol are legal?
Zachary snow new what was going and thought that he would get in less trouble if he blamed it on spice. It doesn’t cause memory loss like that. That is just stupid to believe. The stuff is bad for your health though and can cause a bad cough.
