“Mix it up at Lunch” tomorrow
In the spirit of expanding your social circle and stepping out of the box, tomorrow at lunch (November 9) sit at a different table. In 2002, the Southern Poverty Law Center introduced the idea as part of their Teaching Tolerance project.
Mix It Up at Lunch Day has caught on at thousands of schools across the country. In order to break down social and racial barriers, the program is used as an introduction for daylong events that teach tolerance and respect.
Along the same lines is MTV’s “If You Really Knew Me.” The show presents what is called “Challenge Day” at high schools nationwide. Trained counselors lead juniors and seniors through a day of games and exercises that foster self-examination and awareness of issues facing their peers.
