Check with your local small claims court for the rules about filing a lawsuit. There are limits that differ from court to court. If your claim is higher than the limit, you will need to sue in a different court and may want to hire a lawyer to represent you. The staff at these courts will give you information about the process and what’s required in each to properly file a lawsuit. You can also talk with a local lawyer about your case. Some offer a free consultation for the first thirty minutes or so and that may be all you need to decide how to proceed. Good luck.
