My son is 12 years old and in 6th grade at a rural school here in a small town in Indiana. He has ADHD, and is protected under special ed laws, and IEP. He has problems with being bullied now since start of last year. We moved here in 2010. I have notified all school officialls, spoken w/ Teacher, and Principal as well, and they all deny this . My son has kept a journal of incidents I told him to do, and Ive even shown them those. I noticed after my concerns were getting more and more frequent, I noticed my child getting harrassed more by his Teacher and principal, and being picked on for every mistake he made, and getting detentions, and in trouble alot more. My son would come home telling me his teacher would ask him everyday if he took his ” pills ” because he acted hyper still. It bothered my son and me also because noone even called or told me they were concerned about this at all. This was going on for over a months time. I was brought in for a meeting abought my child, I thought, to discuss his education progression and behavior , and I was then confronted in front of the staff, about his medications, and was told by his Teacher that he thought that he wasnt getting them due to the way he acted in the classroom ! I was stunned and in schock. My son always told them he took his medication, he has been on meds since 5 years old. I told them , that Sam was neing questioned by teacher and I didnt think that was appropriate, and I think they started getting upset with me for speaking out for my child. Sam has a father, though he is never attending at these case conference meetings. After meeting , they sent my child home on school bus , same day when he was supposed to be picked up by me for a appointment with his nurse practitioner who handles his medication management, so I had to resceduale that , and was upset about Teacher telling me the reasoning for that was the appointment “just slipped hi mind “, so I had to call office and explain the circumstances and rescheduale for 2 days later ! Well, next day one of the bullies that I have complained about attacked my son in hallway of school, and my child got scared and fought back. Bad thing was he already was walking with a pencil in his hand, and when boy grabbed him, he tried scaring him away by pretending to hit him with it. Well, of course, they got mu child, and took him into office, questioned him, without a parent of course, and notified me 2 hours later. They forced me to sign for him to be institutionalized, I refused of course. I was told they all seen what happened on video, but when I requested to view it, I was denied to see it. They called his Father, without telling me, whos absent in his education, and told him that this incident was for sure a reason he wasnt taking his medication, and father went behind my back along with school principal, and retaliated in a way, for me asserting my rights as a parent and my sons special ed right’s also. But Father, whom is the non custodial parent, got attorney, acted like the GOOD dad,and found a oppurtunity to get back at me as well, his new wife included.And even started cooperating with my childs nurse whom hes never met the whole 8 months my child and I been seeing her, and even convinced her I wasnt giving him his medications, along with the support of the schools allegations and now I had to got to court over custody. I have had my child with me for 12 years. I have never had a issue , with any school, but this one. I believe I have been retaliated against, and they are using the med issue as a way to cover up the fact they didnt protect my son ! I want to get my story out, because Im might be losing my child over something that is a school cover up, and a lie. Im so emotionally upset, Im on disability as well, and it has caused me alot of set backs. My child isnt listened to no matter what, and I am ready to file a complaint. This happened in September, and Im still denied seeing the video of my child, its always stipulations. Bullying shouldve been tooken care of along time ago. My child was removed from school on homebound school at library till now, and has had no issues, plus been evaluated in Indianapolis, and they wrote that his medication wasnt working as well for his specefic medical issues, like Autism now, not just his ADHD. So there is your proof, but now since damage is done, school doesnt really care what the evaluation says now ! They even testified against me, committed pergury to the judge, about my son and saying he never got bullied, but he was one. Not to mention the school records were all dicipline records , nothing about when I called the school, asked to have reports filed when my son smacked in face on bus or hit, etc. NOTHING in there at all. AND of course thats what the judge got also, he even asked me why those reports were not in front of him, and all I could say was ” I know, I didnt get them either. But it happened to him. ” Please tell me what I can do, I shouldnt be losing my child over a school retaliation for me complaining of the bullying and filing a complaint about it.
