Dear Annmarie: We’re sorry to hear about your son’s circumstances. First, since you are concerned about your son’s mental health, perhaps you could look for a good counselor or psychiatrist to properly diagnose him and get him on medication if necessary. You could try starting with the guidance counselor at your son’s school if he’s currently enrolled for a referral to a therapist. Since he’s on house arrest, then counseling may be a mandatory term of his probation. If this is the case, talk to his probation officer about your concerns and the treatment you believe he needs.
