14-Year-Old McKay Swears Not to Cuss

PreviousNext

As Mckay says on his website “I’m just a regular kid. I like to play soccer, play video games, hang out with my friends.” McKay was 14 and in junior high in California in 2007.

One thing that bothered him was how much his friends cussed. When he told them, they were surprised. They didn’t realize how much they cursed until he said something. He challenged them to stop and they agreed to remind and support each other. They started a club whose  motto is “Leave People Better Than You Found Them.”

When McKay began high school, he started an official school club. Over 100 members joined on “club rush day” which led to the creation of their website www.nocussing.com. In six months, they had members in all fifty states and the idea spread around the world. The NCC now exists in Africa, South America, Australia, European countries, China, Israel and many other countries. Check Nick’s site to see if there’s one in your area.

Members take the No Cussing Challenge which is a commitment to themselves to use polite and respectful language. Members also look everyday for opportunities to help people and lift them up through words and activities. Remember: Your words become your thoughts – Your thoughts become your behavior – Your behavior becomes your character – Your character becomes your destiny.

The NO CUSSING Challenge!

I won’t cuss, swear, use bad language, or tell dirty jokes.  Clean language is a sign of intelligence and always demands respect.  I will use my language to uplift, encourage and motivate.  I will Leave People Better Than I Found Them!

Congratulations, McKay. You’re doing a great thing for a better world for all of us. Keep it up!!

Check out McKay in an interview on CBS on March 2, 2010 under the title “Cut Cussing Kid Fights On.”
