Open letter to President Trump

typewriter freedom of press

The following is Judge Tom’s open letter to President Trump.

Dear President Trump:

By the time you read this you will have reached the end of your first year as President of the United States. Since you and I are the same age and neither of us are immortal, it’s time to think about our legacies; what we will leave behind to our children and their children.

I am not a wealthy person in terms of property or bank accounts. I have spent my adult life representing child protective services and as a judge in family and juvenile court. Think about your legacy and what you leave behind for your family to live with for decades if not centuries.

Historians will be writing about your term in office and, I predict, it will not be kind. Your descendants will be able to bring up this era online, see books for sale and on display in libraries and bookstores. Their middle and high school history books will cover your administration with a scarcity of positive comments. Their friends will learn about your term in office and subject your family members to bullying, including cyberbullying. The trail of chaos and incivility you leave behind will forever be ridiculed in every medium and level of discourse.

Only you can spare your family what will surely come to them. By resigning your office, you can cut your losses and perhaps earn some respect for doing the right thing for the country and the world.  Give it a little thought.

Sincerely,   –Judge Tom
